Royal Wedding Sick Bag: Lydia Leith

Show: Royal Wedding Sick Bag, Lydia Leith.

Tell: “Influenced by retro airline logos the royal wedding sick bag design is silk screen printed onto a white air line sickness bag in blue or red.  The work is an alternative royal wedding souvenir designed as an antidote to all the media hype surrounding the event.  The joke is contained in a serious and official looking design so people may need to look twice to catch on.

“I collect classic design objects along with vintage packaging and am interested in the contrasts between high and low culture and between traditional and modern lifestyles. Exploring these disparities provides sources for my design work.

“I originally hand printed a limited first edition run, which sold within a couple of days, I was not expecting the extent of media coverage or rate of sales and supplying to the demand had been a fun challenge.”

Info: Lydia Leith is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne
